What is Windermere Florida All About?

The Town of Windermere is located in west Orange County, approximately 12 miles from downtown Orlando. It has easy access to most major highways.  Windermere is bordered on the east and on the south by Orlando, to the north by Gotha and Ocoee and on the west by the city of Winter Garden.

The town of Windermere is situated on a section of land that is bordered by Lake Butler, Wauseon Bay, Lake Down and Lake Isleworth and Lake Betty which is not within the Butler chain of lakes. The larger area of Windermere borders the rest of the Butler Chain. You may live in Windermere, but not in the actual Town Limits.

Windermere’s motto is “Among the Lakes,” and it truly is surrounded at every turn by bodies of water, some large and some small.  The town draws boating and fresh water enthusiasts from all over the world as both residents and visitors. As an avid boater, I know this chain of lakes well. Despite being bordered by homes in most area, the chain of lakes still retains its Natural Wonder.

The downtown area of Windermere has been designated as the Commercial Business District of the Town of Windermere. This area is bounded by Forest St to the north, 4th Street to the east, Oakland St to the south, and 7th Street to the west. The downtown area also still has unpaved residential streets which adds to its charm.
